Ferryboat Captain and company founder S. Wallace Edwards (us grandkids called him PopPop) displays his pride & joy, our Wigwam Brand Genuine Virginia Ham.
|
PopPop (right) found a willing student in my Dad, S. Wallace Edwards, Jr. (left) when it came to learning about selecting and producing the finest quality Virginia Country Hams.

From the beginning in 1926, PopPop's hickory-smoked Virginia Hams were popular Christmas gifts. Here PopPop (left), Dad (at about 8 years old), & crew load a Holiday delivery trailer.
|
PopPop and crew designed and built these first smokehouses in 1926. They've been replaced by modern smokehouses now, but they're still popular land-marks in our Surry, VA hometown.

Just as PopPop did for him, Dad (the good-looking one on the right) spared no effort in teaching me the Edwards way of selecting, curing and hickory-smoking Virginia Hams.

My Grandmother, Oneita Edwards, and I share a proud moment just after we received one of our 14 Blue Ribbons for best ham and bacon among fierce competition at the Virginia State Fair.
